Cardio: you love it or you hate it, it seems. Whether or not cardio is your favorite type of workout, it’s a great way to get lean and add some variety to your usual routine with no fuss or drama. Here are three great cardio-based tricks that help you get lean faster and feel great doing it.

From Eat This, Not That:

If cardio is your main jam, you’re likely always looking for ways you can switch things up and improve your workout routine. And if your top goal is to get lean quicker through cardio, we absolutely have you covered. We spoke with Jayne Gomez, personal trainer and CEO of Entrepreneur PT about the best cardio exercise tricks to get lean faster, so get ready to take notes.

Gomez tells us that getting lean is not as complicated as you may think. In order to do so, you need to “change your body composition,” which, according to Gomez, means “you have to lose body fat and increase muscle mass. There’s a common misconception amongst women that muscle will make you look manly, but it is quite the opposite. The more muscle you have, the faster your metabolism will be—and by default, the faster your metabolism is, the faster you’ll burn fat and get leaner!”

So without further ado, below you will find the no-brainer tricks that will assist you in getting lean quicker with each step. Read on to learn more about these easy tips, and next, be sure to check out The 6 Best Exercises for Strong and Toned Arms in 2022, Trainer Says.

  1. Count your steps

Don’t forget to count your steps! There are plenty of apps to choose from that provide personal daily step counts. In addition, you can share your counts with friends and family. According to Gomez, “Healthy competition never hurts!”

2. Opt for the stairs

“Take the stairs, park your car a little further, or walk the doggo for an extra 10 minutes—move, move, and move,” Gomez stresses. In order to drop body fat and get lean, you need to torch more calories than you take in. “An extra 10-minute walk might not look much for you, but it’s the compounded effort that will make a difference,” Gomez continues.

3. Choose shorter high-intensity cardio sessions

Choose shorter high-intensity cardio workouts rather than long and steady cardio sweat sessions. Gomez explains, “You can burn a lot more calories by doing high-intensity cardio for a shorter amount of time than being on the treadmill for hours long.”
