We all have memories of our lunchtime meals from our school days. Below is some information about school lunches for the 2021 – 2022 school year for Chesapeake Public Schools:
Children need healthy meals to learn. Chesapeake Public Schools offers healthy meals every school day. For the 2021-2022 school year, breakfast and lunch will be available at no charge to all students. All school menus can be found online.
Virtual Learning Meal Distribution
Meals will also be available at no cost for our full-time virtual learners. Our school nutrition servers will offer curbside meal distribution every Tuesday at all of our district’s 7 high school campuses. Curbside meals will only be available for virtual learners. Beginning September 21, 2021, parents must preorder meals through MyPaymentsPlus.com.
Food Allergy Concerns
All meals served meet standards established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. However, if a student has been diagnosed with food allergies or has been determined by a doctor to be disabled and the disability prevents the student from eating the regular school meal, the school will make substitutions prescribed by the doctor. If a substitution is prescribed, there will be no extra charge for the meal. If your student needs substitutions because of a disability, please contact Mrs. Jennifer McDermott at (757) 547-1470 for further information.
Lunch Buddy Meal Program
New this school year, students can pick up sides for their lunch at no cost. The Lunch Buddy Meal program allows students to bring their own lunch items and add to their meal with school lunch sides. Students must pick at least 3 items and one must be a fruit or veggie.
More than a Meal Application
Although breakfast and lunch is being offered to all students at no cost to students, completing a Meal Benefit application can help in many areas beyond free or reduced-price meals. Through completion of an application, your family can ensure continued funding to support all students in Chesapeake Public Schools. Additional benefits include:
- Reduced SPORTS FEES for student athletics and activities.
- Discounted INTERNET FEES for home internet.
- Discounts on fees for AP exams and WAIVED FEES for SAT/ACT testing.
- Local SCHOLARSHIPS, tuition assistance for dual enrollment courses and discount fees on applying for college.
- Help for SCHOOL BUDGETS by increasing state and federal funding for staff, equipment and supplies.
Apply online. Paper applications are available on our website or you can call our School Nutrition office at 757-547-1470.
